Gruelling through the sultry night
Persisting against nature’s will
Battling your own self you strive
To accomplish what others failed.
Wiping beads of sweat off your brow
You fight not to crawl to a burrow
You fight not to sheath your will
You fight not to let the curtains fall
On your dreams and split them asunder
Blank out the light you seek in the dark
And within your instruments you look
For the final stroke, for your prestige
And as the Sun blinks from the East
Fresh from slumber, ready to shine
Unlike you; as you fall into a stupor,
In the moment of reckoning, you perish.
After the math, was it all worth it?
