He barked lines through the wind
Riffs encasing him in thin threads
And when he was done, in the end
Whispered a melody spreading a dread
Of the demise of music and the player
So he may sound pretentious and lay
Beside his rusty lute, caress it slow
Stroke it through the clock’s ticking
Feel it’s strings intertwine across her
Sinister soul, and then try to atone
His sins and then try to relive his
Paltry life through verses unheard and
A tune so vile yet so triumphant.
By the lake she stood in woe
Soaking in the curious rain
As it danced around imploring
As it sung a fruitless lullaby
As it laid itself bare at her feet
Shattering to the ground, broken
As her tears across her pale face
Indiscernible in that reckless night
When she lay wrapped up in lines
And the sorcery of the musician cold
As it reminded of her centuries old
When the forest lay a bed of gold
Upon weary travellers’ nest, enticing
Alleviating, deceiving; as the lute sung
As a distant note from the woods rung
And through such beauty came the end
A tune so vile yet so triumphant.
III
Listless leaves hung with innocence
Over his contemplative stare into the dark
Across the black lake and into the moon
Across the waters where the lady did swoon
To his colors of fracas, as he raged a war
Within her unwary self, as she fought
As she writhed in euphoric lechery
To the halcyon tunes of his instrument;
Jittery fingers set to slide down the neck
Jittery hands to open the final door
And throw the final riff through the wind
Through the rain and through her soul
And devour her misery in beauty of
A tune so vile yet so triumphant.
IV
As the night bore its final moments
It felt the haunting tune through it
And froze; her wails for daylight unheard
Through the climax of the freakish riff
Monstrous in its wake, and she let out a scream
That pierced his very soul and woke a man
Lost in the woods of desolation, of deception,
And he let out a melody, along with it, a whisper
And the night let out a harmony, and the song
Lay before the two; the Sun left its dark recess
And shadows formed archways and
Lay forth a path for him and her
Through verses unheard and a tune angelic
That was once so vile, yet so triumphant.
