And So I Went Shopping Today

So, I went shopping today,
Surprised? So was I, but let me say
If I may, that it was quite good!
To lift my soles and sway as I stood,
As I stood on tiptoe and I thought
Why I need to be with clothes fraught,
For all the fights I have fought
Have been in grey t-shirts sought
But then I did see the folly
Of repeated colours and rhymes
So let me go astray a bit
Not a lot, just a little bit:

So, indeed, I went shopping today
And by the swarm I was swept away!
I stood gawking at the bustling scene
Of men in red and women in green
And skirts in blue, shorts in black
Around the store and to the entrance back
I moved to and fro, baffled I roamed.

How to get upstairs? I wondered,
And still I roamed, until a kind lady
In black and grey showed me the way
To the things I needed to see
So I may fulfil my prophecy –
To the sound of a teeming clock
I would carve my way through the flock
On ancient ladies in purple,
They looked like ol’ Mrs. Myrtle
And couples holding hands stiff,
Shopping does cause many a tiff
Among lovers looking for faded jeans
Than months old stale Mexican beans.

I sauntered the floor all around
And listened to my mp3 sounds
Of the perilous Marilyn Manson bold
And of the dragon tongues of Skyrim old
And Till Lindemann’s rolling baritone
And Akerfeldt’s growls of stone
And thus in a misty world of slumber
I let myself lumber.

I gazed at t-shirts in jade
And to blue, I said adieu
I let the poor jade fade
For the cyan looked so magnificently pure,
But then the old grey caught my eye
Alas! The splendid black was not in my size,
Oh what pain I felt, I tell thee
If that would end this unique spree
But never had I strolled so enveloped in clothes
Here and there, hither and thither
As my English, I let myself slither
Into the sumptuous land of indulgence
Where nothing can be bought for a pence
Nor for a pound, for there’s nothing like that around.

So I traipsed and skipped about the place
And saw a girl baiting her man by the palm
As if the promise of the nocturnal balm
Was subject to the checkered shirt
That would probably put his foot in the dirt;
Mystified, intrigued and merrily
I finally chose a T after some thought
That today a vibrant shirt shall be sought;
And such was the irony my friend,
That blue and jade that I chose to ditch
Turned out to be the centurion of my pitch,
For I settled for a brilliant aqua green
I say, with the Gods above, a tumultuous scene,
To end the unique stroll this way
I told you, indeed, I went shopping today.
